Middle Country Public Library is a national and regional model for Family Place Libraries. These are libraries where staff have undergone training in how to develop a family place library.
The training is provided by staff at Middle Country Library. The training is both intense and comprehensive. It runs over three days and is then followed up with on-site visits as well as one- to-one support.

Being accessible for childfen with special needs is part of being family friendly. A core element of this program is making connections and partnerships with every group associated with children in your community.
The library runs a range of inclusive programs and also programs taregtted for children with special needs. Including a Sign Language Club, which runs weekly, has 100
Chn. Attend, and involves learning sign language through music. The library pay a soecialist to runthe club. It has been running for 25years. The club give performances throughout the community as well.
Other activities inckude a social group and a sensory storytime. The library has an ourdoor exploration centre. Which is inclusive for all chn. It includes spaces for creating, growing, climbing, digging, water play, etc.
